I have always been inspired by classical fairy art. Those mystical luminescent paintings of ethereal fairy gatherings in the woods from the 16th to 19th century- like Midsummer’s Eve by Edward Robert Hughes, or the amazing illustrations of Michael Hague.
While sprites and fairies may be hard (impossible?) to find in the woods, many botanical wonders bring their same magic and beauty. I have combined a botanists’ more exacting perspective with the childlike spirit of wonder to create this botanical poster which highlights a few of the special native plant and insect species named after the fairies.
