In having such reverence for Earth, I've wondered how we can admire it's beauty while leaving it undisturbed. I think paintings are an incredible way to do just that. That is why I was inspired to create this series of mineral paintings, and share them with the world.
This is an archival giclee print of my original watercolor painting of Phantom Quartz tower with a chlorite phantom inclusion. Originally painted with traditional watercolor materials and techniques, this print excellently reproduces the watercolor magic with its rich tones and quality. It is printed on an archival, acid-free natural paper made of plant cellulose and cotton using premium quality pigment inks. This print won't ever fade or age.
The word phantom- meaning a ghost or apparition- comes from the Greek phantasma meaning ‘make visible.’ More directly speaking it meant an illusion. In phantom quartz, one is given the illusion that a smaller crystal has formed within the larger crystal. What has actually happened is during the quartz’s growth, a layer of another mineral (in this case chlorite) is deposited, after which the quartz crystal resumes its crystallization enclosing the phantom crystal outline within itself. It creates an incredible, otherworldly effect that was exciting (albeit difficult) to paint. I hope this piece brings some of the magic of phantom quartz to your space.
