Herkimer Diamond Watercolor Print

This is an archival giclee print of my original watercolor painting of Herkimer Diamonds. Originally painted with traditional watercolor materials and techniques, this print excellently reproduces the watercolor magic with its rich tones and quality. It is printed on an archival, acid-free natural paper made of plant cellulose and cotton using premium quality pigment inks. This print won't ever fade or age. In having such reverence for Earth, I've wondered how we can admire it's beauty while leaving it undisturbed. I think paintings are an incredible way to do just that. That is why I was inspired to create this series of mineral paintings, and share them with the world. The geology of Herkimers is very interesting, and explains why they are so special and rare. The host rock of Herkimer Quartz, the Little Falls Dolostone, began as a deep layer of marine sediment. After a geological event that left behind shallow marine pools, algae and other little critters abounded, but then left behind lots of minerals including silica. Mountains including the Adirondacks began to form and buried these marine pools and a their rich sediment over 3k deep. During the chaos of forming mountains, the segment of earth holding the Little Falls Dolostone (Herkimer host rock) broke free from the main piece of Earth and basically formed a free floating island of thin specialty rock. Some other geological alchemy transformed it into the Herkimer producing mass we now know.
