In having such reverence for Earth, I've wondered how we can admire it's beauty while leaving it undisturbed. I think paintings are an incredible way to do just that. That is why I was inspired to create this series of mineral paintings, and share them with the world. This is an archival giclee print of my original watercolor painting of a Peruvian Pyrite specimen displaying dodecahedron growth habit. Originally painted with traditional watercolor materials and techniques, this print excellently reproduces the watercolor magic with its rich tones and quality. It is printed on an archival, acid-free natural paper made of plant cellulose and cotton using premium quality pigment inks. This print won't ever fade or age. Mirrors are a commonplace object nowadays, but can you believe pre-contact Olmec, Inca, Maya, and Aztecs fashioned mirrors out of pyrite? Radiocarbon dating shows some mirrors from between 650 to 950 CE- the Classic Period of Mesoamerica, when the Maya network of city states and the metropolis of Teotihuacan were at their peaks. The mirrors were made by delicate flakes of pyrite being glued with tree resin to slabs of other stones. (Go see my stories where i share examples!) As you can imagine with how reflective pyrite can be they were very effective mirrors. But they were only used for utility, mirrors were also seen as portals to the unknown and to the heavens and were used in ceremony. Highest in demand for making these mirrors was dodecahedron pyrite with their large, nearly round faces. I hope you love this magical rock as much as I do! Due to the organic nature of this paper, prints may have very minor variations and marks from the fiber. 8"x10" prints are sent flat, on a foam core backing board will protective covering.
