The showy aster is a late summer season star. Appropriate, as the genus name Aster is derived from the Greek word for star. Aster integrifolius grows in mountain woods and meadows throughout the west. I chose to paint this Aster species as it is a common one I see in the Tetons and its leaves are more robust than the Showy or Alpine aster. Indeed, the species name *integrifolius* means "entire leaved."
